Oxapampa & Yanachaga National Park Excursion

Your adventure begins with a pick-up at 8 am from your accommodation in La Merced, as we embark on a journey to the north.

Our first destination will be Oxapampa, the capital of its namesake province. This town boasts a fascinating history, having been established in the 19th century by German and Austrian settlers. The legacy of these immigrants continues today, reflected in the local population, where you can find family names like Mayer and Müller, blending European and Andean traditions.

We will explore the different districts of Oxapampa, including the neighbourhoods of Miraflores and Llamaquizu, while admiring the charming architecture along the Paseo de los Colonos. During our exploration, we will also stop at the church of Santa Rosa, renowned for its remarkable Tyrolean architectural style, a rare sight in Peru.

Continuing our journey through the Oxapampa valley, we’ll pause at the Huarapo estate, where we’ll discover how sugar cane brandy is produced and enjoy a tasting of this local spirit. Nearby, we'll also visit a trout farm and a dairy facility, providing insight into the agricultural practices and livelihoods of local farmers.

You will have some leisure time for lunch before we venture towards Yanachaga National Park, nestled within the Amazon rainforest. This stunning preserve offers a chance to experience the vibrant ecosystem and intricate jungle life at the heart of Peru.

As the day wraps up, we will conclude our exploration and head back to La Merced, arriving at your hotel around 5 pm.
