Villa Rica & El Oconal Lagoon Day Trip
At 8 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in La Merced and start exploring some of the amazing places in the province of Oxapampa.
This area has been inhabited by three different civilizations: the Campas to the east, the Amueshas to the west, and the Cashibos to the northeast. These Amazonian tribes lived in harmony, and today the region is known for its waterfalls as well as its coffee, pineapple, and rocoto crops.
Our first stop will be in the village of Villa Rica, where we will discuss the municipality's role as a coffee producer. During the stroll through the village, we will visit the Chapel of Our Lady of Rosario and the Plaza de Armas.
Afterwards, you'll have some free time for lunch before we head to the El Oconal Lagoon. This wetland area is home to fish such as catfish and tilapia, and white herons. The lagoon was formed by fluvial deposits during the Cenozoic period some 50 million years ago.
We'll return to La Merced and drop you off at your hotel after an unforgettable 9-hour day trip.
