Spending a few days in Chetumal? Don't miss this day trip to Calakmul, where we'll visit one of the most important ancient Maya cities in Mexico.
Day Trip Details
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at your hotel in Chetumal to set off to the archaeological site of Calakmul, known as "Snake Kingdom." The journey will take approximately 3.5 hours through jungle landscapes before reaching the entrance of the site. Prior to arriving at the Calakmul ruins, we will take a 1-hour stroll along a path in the tropical jungle, where you may spot fauna such as howler monkeys and toucans.
Following the jungle exploration, we will proceed to the archaeological site of Calakmul. This ancient Mayan city covers 70 square kilometers (27 square miles) and consists of more than 6,000 buried structures, showcasing significant biological diversity within the Campeche jungle.
During our visit, we will explore the main structures, including the Great Plaza, the Ball Court, and the Acropolis, and learn about the history and traditions of the Maya people through carved stone stelai.
After spending 4 hours at the site, we will begin the return journey, arriving at your hotel after approximately 13 hours.
