Guided Tour of Kochi
The guided tour begins at the port of Kochi where we climb into a minibus to the oldest part of the city, Fort Kochi. At Fort Kochi, we will see traditional 'Chinese fishing nets', techniques for capturing fish that date back many centuries and were imported from China in the 14th century. You will learn about their use and history.
Next, we visit St. Francis Church, one of the oldest European churches in India, where the remains of Vasco da Gama were kept until 1539. Nearby, we find the Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica with beautiful stained glass windows and wall paintings.
From Fort Kochi, we head to the neighborhood of Dhobi Khana to visit the Mattancherry Palace (Dutch Palace) and the Paradesi Synagogue, a significant Jewish shrine in southern India, where you will learn about the history of this community.
Finally, we return to the port in Kochi where the tour concludes.
