Tour Overview
At the scheduled time, we will collect you from your hotel in Oaxaca and set off towards Santa María del Tule. This marks the beginning of our journey into Guelaguetza, a festivity rooted in pre-Hispanic history, celebrated on the two Mondays closest to July 16 in tribute to the Virgen del Carmen.
We will first dive into the joyous ambiance of the Guelaguetza, experiencing traditional dances and admiring the stunning textiles that represent Oaxaca's diverse regions. A visit to the famous tree of Tule will follow, where you can discover its cultural importance. This tree is notable for possessing the world's thickest trunk!
Next, our exploration leads us to the archaeological site of Mitla, recognized as the second most significant archaeological location in Oaxaca. Here, we will uncover the Zapotec culture while examining the ancient architecture that narrates the captivating story of this civilization.
During lunchtime, you will enjoy a taste of local Oaxacan cuisine, indulging in authentic dishes within a warm and inviting setting. Following our meal, we will head to a weaving workshop where you can gain insight into the intricate textiles that the region is known for.
Afterward, we will return to your hotel in Oaxaca, bringing to a close a rewarding day that spans approximately 9 hours.
