Description
The tour begins with pickup from your hotel, heading southeast from Oaxaca to the frozen waterfalls of Hierve el Agua, located in San Isidro de Roaguía. Enjoy stunning views of the waterfalls, one at a height of 100 feet (30 metres) and the other at 40 feet (12 metres). This natural wonder, formed over 2,500 years ago, is considered sacred by the Zapotec people, showcasing a spectacular 'frozen' image created by calcium carbonate deposits.
During the visit, there is an opportunity to bathe in the natural pools and enjoy the landscapes of the Madre del Sur mountain range. The tour continues with a demonstration of mezcal production, utilizing the region's 120 varieties of agave. A tasting of different mezcal types is included.
You will have 1 hour of free time for lunch in Palenque Mezcal before proceeding to Teotitlán del Valle, renowned for its vibrant textiles and traditional wool product production, blending Zapotec design with contemporary styles. The return journey to Oaxaca will conclude around 6 pm.
