Immerse yourself in the culture of this region of Mexico, visiting the frozen waterfalls of Hierve el Agua and Teotitlán del Valle, home to Mexico's textile tradition.
Description
After hotel pickup, travel southeast from Oaxaca to Hierve el Agua. This site features stunning views with two natural falls, one measuring 100 feet (30 metres) and the other 40 feet (12 metres). Formed over 2,500 years ago from calcium carbonate saturation, these falls are sacred to the Zapotec people, creating a 'frozen' appearance.
Visitors can bathe in the natural pools and enjoy the surrounding landscapes of the Madre del Sur mountain range. The tour continues with a mezcal production demonstration, showcasing 120 varieties of agave in the region, followed by tastings. There will be 1 hour of free time for lunch at Palenque Mezcal.
Next, head to Teotitlán del Valle, known for its vibrant textiles. Located half an hour from Oaxaca, the town maintains traditional Zapotec traditions in wool production, creating bags, blankets, and clothing with indigenous designs and contemporary styles. After visiting Teotitlán del Valle, the tour concludes with a return to your hotel around 6 pm.
