Oaxaca to Huatulco: 6-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Oaxaca
Welcome to Oaxaca! Upon your arrival at the airport, your guide will greet you in the arrivals hall and escort you to a city centre hotel. The remainder of the day will be yours to enjoy at leisure.
Day 2: Oaxaca - Monte Albán - Arrazola - San Bartolo Coyotepec - Oaxaca
Start your day with a hearty breakfast at your hotel. Later, we'll pick you up and head towards the archaeological site of Monte Albán. Here, you'll delve into the fascinating history of the Zapotec civilization as you explore its ancient pyramids, temples, and altars.
Your next destination will be the village of Arrazola, where you will visit a workshop dedicated to creating alebrijes, vibrant sculptures of fantastical creatures. Following this, we’ll proceed to a stunning 16th-century Dominican ex-monk convent in Cuilápam de Guerrero, before reaching San Bartolo Coyotepec, renowned for its black clay pottery.
Here, you'll have an hour to enjoy lunch at your discretion before we return to Oaxaca, with our expected arrival at the hotel set for 5:45 pm.
Day 3: Oaxaca - Tule - Teotitlán del Valle - Mitla - Oaxaca
After breakfast at your hotel, your adventure continues with a pick-up at 9:45 am to visit the iconic Santa María del Tule Tree. This impressive juniper, aged over 2,000 years and weighing more than 630 tons, boasts the world’s thickest trunk.
Your journey proceeds to a weaving workshop in Teotitlán del Valle, where you’ll have the chance to enjoy lunch independently for an hour. Upon finishing your meal, we’ll visit the Mitla Archaeological Site, exploring the remnants of the Zapotec culture.
Next on our itinerary is a visit to a local mezcal distillery, offering insight into the production of this popular beverage. Afterward, we will return to your hotel in Oaxaca, scheduled for 5:45 pm.
Day 4: Oaxaca - Bahías de Huatulco
Good morning! We'll start our day with a 6 am pick-up from your Oaxaca hotel as we journey south to the Pacific coast. A breakfast stop will be made at San José del Pacífico along the way. By 1 pm, we’ll reach our centrally located hotel in Bahías de Huatulco, where you can enjoy lunch at your convenience.
We will gather again at 3:45 pm for a sightseeing tour highlighting key attractions in Huatulco, including a visit to a traditional Mexican clothing workshop.
Before returning to the hotel at 6:45 pm, you’ll have half an hour for a brief stroll around the area.
Day 5: Bahías de Huatulco
Following breakfast at the hotel, we will pick you up at 9 am to go to the Santa Cruz dock. Here, we will embark on a scenic boat tour around the Bays of Huatulco. Expect to witness stunning coastal vistas and visit famed geological formations like the bufadero, a naturally occurring chimney structure along the cliffs.
The excursion continues through the seven main bays until we arrive at Huatulco National Park, where you’ll have one hour for snorkeling in Chachacual Bay. We’ll then proceed to the Rostro mixteca, unique for its human face-like shape carved into stone.
Your final stop will be at Maguey Bay, where you’ll enjoy two hours of free time to swim and dine. Eventually, we’ll navigate back to the Santa Cruz dock and return to your hotel in Bahías de Huatulco by 6 pm.
Day 6: Departure from Bahías de Huatulco
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel before we transfer you to Bahía de Huatulco Airport, ensuring you arrive with ample time before your flight. Safe travels!

Oaxaca (3 nights): 3-star accommodations such as Oaxaca Real, Hotel del Marquesado, Parador del Dominico, or similar options.Bahías de Huatulco (2 nights): 3-star hotels like Azul Sirena, Alikar, Best Western, or comparable choices.
Breakfasts are provided at the hotels on the second, third, fifth and sixth days. Lunch and dinner during the tour are not included; however, there will be opportunities to enjoy meals in the towns visited. Furthermore, the hotels feature onsite dining options for dinner at your leisure.
