Explore the rich tapestry of Zapotec culture on this comprehensive tour of Oaxaca's villages, where we will visit the Tule Tree, the Mitla archaeological site, and a mezcal distillery.

Day Trip Details

Your journey begins with a pickup from your hotel, leading us 7 miles (12 km) to Santa Maria del Tule. Here, you will encounter the tree with the largest trunk in the world, spanning 14 meters in diameter and estimated to be over 1,400 years old!

Next, we will head to the vibrant village of Teotitlán del Valle. Local artisans here create and paint textiles using techniques passed down through generations. You’ll hear captivating stories about the Zapotec culture, which has remained vibrant in this community for centuries.

Continuing our journey, we’ll reach Mitla, an essential site in Oaxaca’s architectural history. We will explore the ruins of a Zapotec village, which was once a center for advanced learning in architecture, astronomy, and engineering. Marvel at the intricate decorations of the walls and wander through the ornate halls leading to the church.

Our next stop is a candle workshop, where we will delve into a traditional craft handed down through generations. You will learn about the making of vela de concha candles and the process involved in creating aromatic candles. Finally, we will discover the art of mezcal production, complete with a tasting session, allowing you to savor its unique flavors.

After a full day of immersing yourself in the essence of Zapotec culture, we will return to Oaxaca and drop you back at your hotel.
