Tlacolula, San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya & Yagul Day Trip

At 10 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Oaxaca and set off for the first stop of the day, the San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya former convent. Upon arrival, we'll have time to explore this ecclesiastical complex, founded by the Dominicans in 1558, featuring a 17th-century polychrome altarpiece and the region's only bellows organ. Notably, friar Juan de Córdova, a prominent figure in Zapotec language and culture, lived here.

Next, we'll visit the Municipal Presidency of San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya Palace, notable for its portico and decorative arches.

We will proceed to the Yagul archaeological site, where we will observe mural paintings in tombs, the remains of a ceremonial center, the largest ball game in Oaxaca, and a hilltop fortress believed to date back to 500 BC.

Our final stop will be the Tlacolula de Matamoros market, where we will engage with local Oaxacan merchants, learn about market traditions, and observe bartering practices. You will have the opportunity to sample local sorbet and famous charcoal-grilled meats.

We will return to your hotel in Oaxaca by 2:30 pm.
