Tlacolula, San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya & Yagul Day Trip
At 10 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Oaxaca for a visit to the San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya former convent. Here, we'll explore this ecclesiastical complex founded by the Dominicans in 1558, noting the 17th-century polychrome altarpiece and the only bellows organ in the region, associated with the writer and friar Juan de Córdova.
Next, we'll visit the striking Municipal Presidency of San Jeronimo Tlacochahuaya Palace, known for its porch and arch-adorned façade. Our itinerary continues to the Yagul archaeological site, where we will observe mural paintings within tombs, a ceremonial center, the largest ball game in Oaxaca, and a hilltop fortress dating back to 500 BC.
Our last destination will be the Tlacolula de Matamoros market, where we will interact with local Oaxacan merchants, learn about market traditions, observe bartering, and hear the Zapotec language. You will have the opportunity to try local sorbet or charcoal-grilled meats.
We will conclude our tour with a return to your hotel in Oaxaca, arriving around 2:30 pm.
