Tlacolula, San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya & Yagul Day Trip
At 10 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Oaxaca and set off for the first stop of the day, the San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya former convent.
Upon arrival, we will stroll around this ecclesiastical complex, founded by the Dominicans in 1558. We will admire the 17th-century polychrome altarpiece and the only bellows organ in the region. The notable figure Juan de Córdova, who published books on the Zapotec language, lived here.
Next, we will visit the Municipal Presidency of San Jeronimo Tlacochahuaya Palace, noted for its portico and decorative arches.
We will then head to the Yagul archaeological site, featuring mural paintings in tombs, the remains of a ceremonial center, and the largest ball game in Oaxaca, along with a hilltop fortress dating back to 500 BC.
Our final stop will be the Tlacolula de Matamoros market, where we will learn about market traditions and products, observe bartering, and experience the Zapotec language. Local sorbet and charcoal-grilled meats will be available for tasting.
We will return to your hotel in Oaxaca by 2:30 pm.
