Tlacolula, San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya & Yagul Day Trip

At 10 am, we will pick you up from your hotel in Oaxaca and head to San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya former convent.

Upon arrival, you will explore this ecclesiastical complex, founded by the Dominicans in 1558. Highlights include the 17th-century polychrome altarpiece and the only bellows organ in the region. The notable writer and friar Juan de Córdova resided here.

Next, we will visit the Municipal Presidency of San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya Palace, known for its impressive portico and decorative arches.

The trip continues to the Yagul archaeological site, where you'll see mural paintings in tombs, the remains of a ceremonial center, the largest ball game in Oaxaca, and a hilltop fortress dating back to 500 BC.

Our final stop will be the Tlacolula de Matamoros market to engage with local Oaxacan merchants. You'll learn about market traditions, observe bartering, and hear the Zapotec language. There will also be opportunities to try local sorbet and charcoal-grilled meats.

Finally, we will return to your hotel in Oaxaca, arriving at approximately 2:30 pm.
