Tlacolula, San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya & Yagul Day Trip
At 10 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Oaxaca and depart for the first stop, the San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya former convent.
Upon arrival, we will tour this ecclesiastical complex founded by the Dominicans in 1558, featuring a 17th-century polychrome altarpiece and the region’s only bellows organ. The renowned friar and writer Juan de Córdova was associated with this site.
Next, we will visit the Municipal Presidency of San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya Palace, notable for its striking portico and decorative arches.
We will proceed to the Yagul archaeological site, which includes ancient mural paintings, a large ceremonial center, the largest ball game structure in Oaxaca, and a hilltop fortress dating back to 500 BC.
Our final stop will be the Tlacolula de Matamoros market, where we will meet local merchants, learn about traditional market practices, observe bartering, and hear the Zapotec language. You will have the opportunity to sample local sorbet and charcoal-grilled meats.
We will return to your hotel in Oaxaca by 2:30 pm.
