After meeting on Emídio Navarro Av. in Coimbra, you'll embark on your journey towards Aveiro. Upon arrival in the historic city, you'll board one of the renowned Moliceiro boats, traditionally used for transporting seaweed and salt. Enjoy a 45-minute cruise along the canals that characterize Aveiro and have earned it the nickname "the Venice of Portugal."

As you take in the views from the Moliceiro, you'll proceed to explore the old town of Aveiro, where you can admire the Art Nouveau architecture that transforms the town into an open-air museum. You'll also visit the traditional fishermen's quarter and have the opportunity to taste the local delicacy, ovos moles.

Your next stop will be Praia da Barra. Here, you'll have time to enjoy the stunning white sand beach and capture photos of the impressive Aveiro Lighthouse, the second-tallest lighthouse on the Iberian Peninsula, surpassed only by Faro de Chipiona near Cadiz.

Afterward, you'll travel to Costa Nova, one of Portugal's most breathtaking beaches, famous for its iconic striped houses that line the coastline. Once home to local fishermen, these picturesque buildings now attract numerous visitors.

After a fulfilling experience exploring these charming Portuguese coastal towns, you will be returned to the meeting point in Coimbra.

Climbing Aveiro Lighthouse

If you choose to do the Aveiro & Costa Nova Tour on a Wednesday afternoon, you will have the option to climb Aveiro Lighthouse. A climb of 300 steps will reward you with a breathtaking panoramic view of the bay below. Please note that this activity is not recommended for individuals with heart conditions.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

You will meet your guide at Emídio Navarro Av. in Coimbra, from where the tour will commence towards Aveiro. After the Moliceiro boat ride and the exploration of Aveiro's highlights, including its architecture and local sweets, you will visit Praia da Barra and Costa Nova.
