On this day trip we'll discover the beauty of the Serra da Estrela mountain range, one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in Portugal.

Tour Description

At the indicated time, we'll meet at Avenida Emídio Navarro in Coimbra to start this day trip through the Serra da Estrela.

Our first stop will be Sabugueiro, located an hour and a half from Coimbra, known as the highest village in Portugal at 1200 metres (3,937 ft) above sea level.

During our visit, we'll discuss the Estrela Mountain Dog, one of the oldest Portuguese shepherd dog breeds, and its significance in the region. We will then continue our journey to the highest point of the Portuguese mainland.

On the way, we'll pass emblematic sites including Mondeguinho, the source of the largest river in the country, the town of Manteigas, the “heart of the Serra da Estrela” and the UNESCO Estrela Geopark headquarters, the Zêzere Glacier Valley, and Covão da Ametade.

Upon reaching the top, we'll find the Tower, standing at 1993 metres (6,538 ft) offering incredible views of the Serra da Estrela. You will have the opportunity to taste Queijo da Serra, a typical cheese from the region.

We will then start the descent through the Ski Station, passing by Lagoa Comprida and Senhora do Desterro, concluding the tour after a total of 9 hours of hiking back at the starting point.
