Discover the "Shining City," the archaeological ruins of a Medieval citadel constructed in the 10th century by Abd-ar-Rahman III, the first Umayyad Caliph of Cordoba.

Medina Azahara Guided Tour

We will meet at the Paseo de la Victoria and travel by bus to Medina Azahara, located 8 kilometres (4.9 miles) from Cordoba. The site was abandoned and looted shortly after its construction and was rediscovered at the end of the 19th century, covering 276 acres (112 hectares) as one of the largest archaeological sites in Spain.

Upon arrival, we will visit the Medina Azahara Museum to view the remains of the palace-city and learn more about its history. Following this, we will take a shuttle bus to the archaeological site for a guided tour, exploring the ten percent of the site that has been uncovered, including limestone walls, pools of mercury, and other remnants of the complex.

You will experience the 10th-century lifestyle of the Caliph of Cordoba as we walk through mosques, towers, servants' quarters, bath complexes, and aristocratic residences. The tour lasts a total of 3.5 hours before we return to the meeting point in Cordoba by bus.
