On this hike up Mount Tlaloc, we'll visit the highest archaeological site in Mesoamerica.
Hiking up Mount Tlaloc
We will meet at the corner of Av. Vicente Suarez and Av. Michoacán. The adventure begins through the Sierra de Río Frío. We will travel by minibus through Texoco and San Pablo Ixayoc until we reach the starting point of the Tlaloc hiking route. The hike begins through a pine forest.
During the hike, we will discuss the flora and fauna of this area. We will cross a canyon and reach the summit of Mount Tlaloc at an altitude of 13,517 feet (4,120 meters). Here, we will explore the highest archaeological site in Mesoamerica.
This site was considered sacred by the Aztecs. We will uncover its significance, particularly related to the Aztec raingod Tlaloc and an astronomical phenomenon in February.
After a break to admire the views of the volcanoes Iztaccihuatl, La Malinche, and possibly the Pico de Orizaba, we will descend to the starting point. We will enjoy a picnic lunch including a sandwich, fruit, peanuts, chocolate, water, and a cereal bar.
After a 2-hour descent, we will return by minibus to Mexico City, arriving after approximately 14.5 hours.
