Paso de Cortés Hiking Excursion
We will meet at 7 am at Michoacán Market in Mexico City. From there, we'll hop on a minibus to Izta-Popo Zoquiapan National Park.
Upon arrival, we'll head for the Paso de Cortés trail, a mountain pass between the Popocatépetl and Ixtaccíhuatl volcanoes. Together, we'll hike a total of 11 kilometers through picturesque wilderness, admiring volcanic rock, rivers, and waterfalls.
Along the way, it won't be difficult to spot local fauna. As we enjoy views dominated by coniferous forests, we may see coatis and volcano rabbits (also known as teporingo or zacatuche). Volcano rabbits are the world's second-smallest rabbit species.
Before returning to Mexico City, the group will have a light lunch, including a sandwich, fruit, an energy bar, and water.
We will then return to the minibus and head back to the meeting point, arriving around 6 pm.
