Cajas National Park Tour

At 8:30 am, we'll meet you at Parque Calderón to board our bus. We will leave Cuenca behind as we embark on our journey to the Cajas National Park, located just 50 minutes away.

Initially, we will arrive at the Llaviucu Lagoon, which, despite being almost 10,000 feet (3,000 metres) above sea level, is the lowest point in the Cajas National Park. From here, we will begin a 1-hour 30-minute hiking route to appreciate the fascinating local flora and fauna.

After our hike, we will return to our vehicle and make a stop at the Loma de las Tres Cruces, or the "Three Crosses Hill." This area, located at over 13,000 feet (4,000 metres) above sea level, marks the continental divide between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. From this high vantage point, you will enjoy breathtaking views of the glacier lakes scattered throughout the park—home to over 200 of them!

Continuing on, we'll make a brief stop to view Toreadore Lake before visiting the Polilepys Forest. This forest is filled with thousand-year-old trees and is one of the most biologically diverse páramo areas.

All this walking is likely to have built up an appetite! We'll regain our energy with a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. Our lunch menu will include potato soup and a second course, which may feature trout or roast chicken.

We will then set off on our return journey and anticipate arriving back at Parque Calderón in Cuenca by 3 pm, where we will bid farewell.

Your adventure begins at Parque Calderón at 8:30 am. After a brief introduction, board the bus for a scenic drive to Cajas National Park.
