Cajas National Park Tour
At 8:30 am, we'll meet at Parque Calderón to board our bus and set off for the Cajas National Park, located 50 minutes away.
Our first stop will be the Llaviucu Lagoon, which is the lowest area of the Cajas National Park at nearly 10,000 feet (3,000 metres) above sea level. Here, we'll embark on a 1-hour 30-minute hiking route to admire the local flora and fauna.
After the hike, we'll continue to the Loma de las Tres Cruces (Three Crosses Hill), located above 13,000 feet (4,000 metres), where the continental divide exists between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. This vantage point offers views over the more than 200 glacier lakes in the park.
Next, we'll make a brief stop at Toreadore Lake before visiting the Polilepys Forest, home to thousand-year-old trees and one of the most biodiverse páramo areas.
After the walk, we'll enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, featuring potato soup and a second course of either trout or roast chicken.
We will then return and arrive back at Parque Calderón in Cuenca by 3 pm, concluding our tour.
