Gdansk Boat Ride
We'll meet at the port of Galar, located in the former imperial shipyard in Gdansk. The tour includes a walk aboard a galley boat. The sailing lasts 1 hour and 20 minutes along the Motlava River to explore the most characteristic places of Gdansk from a unique perspective. Participants will see the great merchant ships of the port and parts of the historical center, including the ruins of a 14th-century Teutonic castle with a fragment of its battlement.
Next, the tour will pass by the medieval crane of Gdansk, the oldest in the Baltic, which was significantly renovated after damage in the Second World War. Historical buildings on Olowianka Island, erected by the Knights of the Teutonic Order, will be visible, along with the remains of medieval barns and warehouses that once housed hops and hemp, contrasting with modern architecture.
Finally, we'll return to the starting point to conclude the galley ride.
What is the boat like?
The boats are inspired by the old galleys of the Middle Ages, made of wood with a capacity of 12 people.
