Cross the Timor Sea and explore one of the famous Tiwi islands on this Bathurst Island Tour. Discover the crafts, rituals and culture of the aboriginal population.
Bathurst Island Tour
We'll meet at Cullen Bay Terminal at 7:30 am and board a ferry to Bathurst Island. The journey lasts two and a half hours, offering views of the Timor Sea.
Upon arrival, we will visit the Mission Heritage Gallery to learn about the local aboriginal villages and traditional sites like the Tiwi-style Catholic church. You will also view the wooden sculptures of birds from Tiwi mythology.
Next, we will visit a local village to meet the Tiwi Islands' aboriginal community and explore their rituals and dances, as well as their significant body art which reflects their spiritual beliefs and social status.
After this, we will enjoy a traditional tea with a small lunch. The tour includes stops at various craft shops to observe the locals creating traditional sculptures.
The tour concludes with a ferry ride back, arriving in Darwin at 6 pm.
