3 or 4-day Orangutan Watching in Gunung Leuser

Day 1

Guests will be picked up at Medan airport or their hotel for transportation to Gunung Leuser National Park, near the village of Batu Rongring. After arrival at lunchtime, a visit to the Sumatra Dream Class environmental conservation project will follow, focusing on reforestation and recycling. Dinner will be served in a local house, and an overnight stay will be at Batu Rongring.

Day 2

The day begins with breakfast, followed by a trekking route through the jungle to observe orangutans in their natural environment with an expert guide. Participants will also contribute to jungle reforestation by planting trees. Dinner with a local family will be provided, allowing a taste of typical Karonese food and insight into rural life in Sumatra. The day will conclude with a stay in the huts.

Day 3

After breakfast, participants will continue exploring the wildlife of Gunung Leuser National Park, with the remainder of the day at their leisure. The tour ends with transportation to Medan airport or their booked hotel.

4-Day Tour

The 4-day tour allows for an additional day of trekking, totaling 2 days of trekking, and includes camping in a tent inside the national park.

Accommodation and Meals

Both tours include 2 nights in wooden cabins; the 4-day tour features an additional night of camping. Guests can choose between a private or shared bathroom at booking. Meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) are included, but drinks are not. Note that the location has limited phone signal and wifi, and electricity is available for 3 hours daily post-dinner.

Orangutan Sighting

Sightings will vary based on weather, reproduction seasons, and species. Orangutans can only be viewed within the National Park during guided treks; other wildlife, such as macaque monkeys and monitor lizards, may be seen outside the park. Participants should be prepared for upland and downland trekking and possess a minimum fitness level.
