Day Excursion to the Kogi Indigenous Community
Your adventure begins at 7 am when we collect you from your accommodation in Palomino. From there, we embark on a journey towards the rainforest of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
After approximately a 1-hour drive, we’ll reach the village of Quebrada del Sol. Here, a delightful local breakfast awaits, along with a friendly guide who will provide insights into the history and traditions of the community we are about to discover.
Next, we will take a scenic 1-hour walk to reach the Kogi Mulkwakungui village. Upon arrival, you’ll delve into the Kogi's rich traditions. This is also a special moment to meet the Mamo, the esteemed figure of authority within the village.
Feeling hungry? At 12:30 pm, we will enjoy a lunch featuring soup, a main dish, juice, and fruit. After the meal, we will make our way to the Don Diego River, where you will have an hour to unwind and take a refreshing dip.
Having spent a profound day discovering the ways of one of Colombia's Indigenous communities, we will gather at 3 pm to return to Palomino.
Extended 2-Day Excursion
If you wish to extend your experience with the Kogi, consider booking our 2-day excursion. The first day includes all the activities listed above and features a chocolate workshop.
After our day's activities, we will savor a traditional farmer's meal in Quebrada del Sol and observe the Kogi's skill in weaving various items. In the afternoon, enjoy some time swimming in natural pools. After refreshing yourself, we'll head back to the village for a delicious dinner.
Following a restful night, we begin the day with a revitalizing breakfast before embarking on a hike to the Don Diego River. Here, we will explore the waters aboard a small raft to visit the Arhuaco Kandumake Indigenous community, who will share their unique customs with us. By noon, we will return for a delightful lunch in the village.
As our journey draws to a close, it’s time to pack and bid farewell. We will commence our return trip to Palomino, dropping you off at your hotel by approximately 5 pm.

The 2-day excursion includes one night of accommodation in a cozy cabin at the village, complete with breakfast.
