Embark on an extraordinary journey through the heart of the Sahara, where you will encounter stunning oases, sweeping dunes, and ancient troglodyte communities. This two-day adventure is designed to immerse you in breathtaking scenery and explore the rich cultural tapestry of the Amazigh people, culminating in an unforgettable evening spent beneath the starry sky of Tunisia's southern region.

Tour Overview

Day 1: Djerba - Chahbania - Tataouine - Chenini - Ksar Ghilane

We will commence our expedition by collecting you from your Djerba hotel, proceeding southward to the captivating vistas of Tataouine. Our journey will involve an exhilarating ride in an off-road vehicle, taking us along the remarkable Roman Road, a significant engineering marvel linking the island with the mainland.

After about 1.5 hours, our first destination will be the enchanting Chahbania salt lake, where the stunning interplay of white and blue hues creates an ideal backdrop for striking photographs and tranquil moments.

Continuing our journey, we will arrive at Tataouine, where we will engage in a one-hour exploration of the town and its vibrant market. The sights, scents, and Amazigh artisan crafts will captivate your senses—textiles, spices, and handcrafted items will offer a feast for the eyes!

Next, we will head to the scenic village of Chenini, perched amidst the mountains. Here, we will wander through its narrow, historic stone pathways, where each turn reveals a tale from centuries past.

At midday, we will savor a traditional Amazigh meal at a local eatery, featuring classic Tunisian fare such as a warming soup, brik (an egg-filled pastry), and savory couscous.

Later in the afternoon, we venture deeper into the Erg desert region towards the oasis of Ksar Ghilane. This tranquil spot, surrounded by palms and golden sands, beckons you to refresh in a natural hot spring—a welcome respite from the desert's warmth.

If you are in the mood for adventure, opt for a thrilling excursion riding camels or quad bikes through the dunes, or perhaps relish a peaceful stroll through the oasis, soaking in the serene atmosphere.

As dusk approaches, we will arrive at Zemla camp, our accommodation in the desert. Here, you can join in a traditional activity of baking bread in the sand, while witnessing one of the most stunning sunsets that southern Tunisia has to offer.

Dining will take place under the vast sky, featuring local dishes such as salad, brik, sand-baked bread, meats prepared in gargoulette, and seasonal fruits. Following dinner, take some time to unwind beneath the Sahara's glittering stars—an enchanting experience awaits!

Day 2: Ksar Ghilane - Tamazret - Sidi Idriss - Toujane - Djerba

After a hearty breakfast in the desert, including fresh bread, eggs, cheese, dates, and juice, we will set out for the Matmata mountainous region, renowned for its distinctive troglodyte homes carved from the earth.

Our first stop will be in Tamazret, a tranquil Amazigh village where we can enjoy mint tea and embrace the peaceful ambience of southern Tunisia—an opportunity to savor the local culture.

Next, we will reach Matmata, where a warm welcome awaits from a local family residing in a genuine troglodyte dwelling. They will share insights into their daily lives and treat us to a homemade meal featuring salad, soup, brik, and Amazigh-style couscous—an authentic showcase of Tunisian hospitality!

After recharging our energies, we will venture to the renowned Sidi Idriss troglodyte hotel, a pilgrimage site for film aficionados as it served as a backdrop for the Star Wars series. Some remnants of the original set still remain!

Before concluding our journey back to Djerba, we will stop in Toujane, a picturesque mountain village celebrated for its handwoven carpets and artisanal honey, providing the perfect opportunity to capture final memories of the trip and acquire souvenirs.

We will finish our tour with a return to your hotel in Djerba, expected between 3 and 4 pm. We look forward to your next adventure!

Accommodation

This excursion includes 1 night of lodging in a haima at the Zemla camp.

Our haimas are customary tents offering private accommodations without the concern of sharing with others. Options are available for single, double, triple, and quadruple accommodation. Each tent is equipped with electricity for charging devices and has access to shared washroom facilities, clearly separated by gender, featuring toilets and showers.
