This excursion to the Igartubeiti winepress offers a unique chance to explore a 16th-century farmhouse alongside a visit to a Basque cider house. A delightful meal is also part of the experience.
Tour Highlights
Your journey begins with a pickup at the designated time on Calle Bengoetxea in San Sebastián, leading us to Ezkio. Nestled in the Guipuzcoan region, we will encounter the Igartubeiti winepress, a historic Basque farmhouse where insights into the cider-making process await.
As we explore, you will observe the wooden equipment used for pressing apples. The traditional methods employed for cider production in the 16th century are intricate and fascinating, and you will gain a deeper understanding of these artisanal techniques.
Following the farmhouse visit, our next stop is a Basque cider house. Depending on the time of year and what is available, we’ll visit one of the well-known locations such as Aburuza, Astarbe, Petritegi, Iparragirre, or Saizar cider house.
You will enjoy a guided tour of the premises, culminating in a tasting of the traditional cider. Subsequently, a delicious lunch awaits, featuring a menu rich in local flavors including cod omelette, fried cod, grilled steaks, cheese paired with marmalade and nuts, bread, cider, and water.
After indulging in this culinary experience, we will return to the initial meeting point in San Sebastián, concluding our journey after approximately five hours.
