Explore Ireland's rich history on this day trip from Dublin. We’ll visit the Hill of Tara, Trim Castle, Loughcrew's Cairns, and Fore Abbey.
Tour Details
After meeting at the Molly Malone statue on Suffolk Street in Dublin, we will depart by coach to explore historic sites in eastern Ireland.
After a 40-minute drive, we arrive at the Hill of Tara, a ceremonial and burial site significant to Celtic tradition and the seat of the High Kings of Ireland. Visitors will enjoy panoramic views including the Coronation Stone and An Forradh monument.
Next, we will travel 30 minutes to Trim Castle, the largest Anglo-Norman fortress in Ireland, where our guide will provide insights into its well-preserved 12th-century ruins.
We will then drive for 50 minutes to Loughcrew, notable for Megalithic passage tombs dating back to 3000 BC, offering both historical context and scenic views. Lunch will follow at a nearby restaurant.
Afterward, a 15-minute coach ride will bring us to Fore Distillery, where we will learn about the production of Golden Irish Rum, White Irish Rum, and Irish Poitín, along with a tasting session. Lunch options include the purchase of food on-site or bringing a packed lunch.
We will conclude the tour at Fore Abbey, established in the 7th century by Saint Fechin, a site with a complex history, including being set on fire 12 times.
The tour ends with a return to Dublin, where guests will be dropped off on Dame Street in the city centre after a total of 10 hours and 15 minutes.
