Tour Options

Set off on a day trip from Durango to explore the La Plata Mountains and Canyon in an off-roading Jeep! Choose between two different tour options that immerse you in this rugged region of the United States. Both tours start and finish at 360 S Camino Del Rio in Durango, and include a local guide. Below are descriptions of each tour option:

Scenic Waterfall Tour (2.5 hours)

Meet us at the indicated time in Durango for a tour of La Plata Canyon's scenic waterfalls. After a 20-minute drive in our open-air jeep, we will arrive at the canyon's mouth. We will navigate winding trails and visit 3 waterfalls. Expect a bumpy ride, and bring your camera for photos as we explore a hidden waterfall at 3,048 meters (10,000 ft) above sea level. After 2.5 hours, we will return to Durango.

La Plata Mountains Tour (4 hours)

This tour covers La Plata Canyon, also known as Kennebec Pass. Starting with a 20-minute drive to the canyon base, we will look for local wildlife such as deer and bears during our ascent to 3,658 m (12,000 ft) above sea level. Enjoy stunning landscapes and learn about the canyon's geology and history, including its ghost towns and abandoned mines. After 4 hours of exploration, we will return to the starting point.
