San Juan del Río Day Trip

We will pick you up from your hotel in Durango and depart for San Juan del Río. A stop will be made at the Peña del Águila dam to appreciate the surroundings of the La Sauceda River.

Upon arrival in San Juan del Río, we will tour several churches, including the 16th-century San Francisco de Asís Church, the sanctuary of Guadalupe, and the San Miguel Arcángel Temple, known for its baroque altarpiece. Additionally, we will view the 'Potro de Hierro' mural honoring Pancho Villa, a key figure in the Mexican Revolution.

Next, we will visit the Community Museum to learn about local customs and traditions. On our way out, we will stop at La Coyotada, Villa's birthplace, where we will discuss his rise to become the governor of Chihuahua.

Following this, we will head to the Willow Well hot springs for lunch and to relax in the warm pools. Our next destination is the Santiaguillo Lagoon, a wetland sanctuary for migratory birds from Alaska and Canada.

Lastly, we will visit a Mennonite community to understand the lifestyle of this pacifist population and their German heritage. We will then return to your hotel in Durango, completing the trip in approximately 8 hours.
