Embark on a captivating exploration of the churches in Écija and uncover its significant religious heritage. The stunning architecture of these churches will surely enchant you as you navigate this charming town in Sevilla.

Tour Overview

Did you know that Écija was home to 14 churches and 18 convents? We will convene at the Plaza de Santiago at the scheduled time to start our journey through the spiritual landmarks of this town located in the province of Sevilla.

Our first destination will be the magnificent Church of Santiago, noted for its exemplary Gothic-Mudéjar architecture. After admiring its striking facade, we'll explore the remarkable altarpiece inside—one of the most significant in the Archdiocese of Seville, second only to the Seville Cathedral.

Continuing our journey, we'll make our way to Plaza de España, site of remnants from a historic episcopal structure. Here, you'll have the opportunity to view the exterior of the Church of Santa Barbara, which stands on the foundations of an ancient Roman temple.

Our next highlight will be the stunning Church of Santa Maria. Upon gazing at its impressive belfry, you might notice similarities to the famous Giralda in Seville. We’ll delve into the rich history of this prominent church in Écija and examine the archaeological artifacts displayed in its courtyard.

Next, we will visit the lovely Church of Los Descalzos, recognized as a Baroque masterpiece that embodies both Astigitan and Andalusian elements. Although its exterior may seem modest, the interior will undoubtedly leave you in awe.

To conclude our tour, we will pass by the Convent of Las Marroquíes before arriving at the Santa Cruz Parish Church. Finally, we will take a moment to appreciate the facades of both the Church of San Pablo and the Church of Santo Domingo before returning to our starting point.

This enriching guided experience of Écija's churches will last approximately 2.5 hours, offering you a deeper understanding of the area's religious significance.
