Tour Details
Day 1
Our expedition begins as we gather at 60 High Street in Edinburgh, getting ready for an exhilarating experience in the highlands. On our way, we will admire breathtaking views of the iconic Forth Bridge while advancing into the Highlands. We’ll pass through Perthshire, notable for its mountains, rivers, and lush forests. Our initial destination will be the charming village of Dunkeld, where a picturesque cathedral graces the banks of the River Tay. Continuing northward, we will traverse the Great Glen, a sweeping valley that stretches over 62 miles (100 km). Our first major stop will be Fort Augustus, providing you with a chance to explore the beautiful shores of Loch Ness, and perhaps catch a glimpse of the elusive Nessie, the legendary Loch Ness monster.
Next, we proceed to the famed Isle of Skye, with a pause to take in the sight of Eilean Donan Castle, a true Scottish treasure. Our overnight stay will be on the Isle of Skye, affectionately known as the 'Winged Isle', specifically in its capital, Portree.
Day 2
The second day affords us the opportunity to delve into the spectacular landscapes of the Isle of Skye. But there’s more; we will uncover the island's captivating myths and legends. Discover the tale of how Bonnie Prince Charlie made his escape from the mainland against the backdrop of the rugged Cuillin Mountains! Our journey will also take us to the awe-inspiring Old Man of Storr, the striking Kilt Rock with its shimmering waterfall, and the grand castle of Dunvegan. We will recharge for the next leg of our adventure and spend another night in Portree.
Day 3
As we reach our third and final day, we’ll still have time to soak in the picturesque scenery of Skye before boarding a ferry to the coastal fishing village of Mallaig. En route, you will be treated to spectacular views from the coach, including the impressive Glenfinnan Viaduct, where a monument stands commemorating Bonnie Prince Charlie’s campaign.
Prior to starting our journey back, we will visit the Dundreggan Rewilding Centre, a nursery and conservation area lined with scenic walking paths. Finally, we’ll travel southward through the stunning scenery of Glencoe, across the wild expanse of Rannoch Moor, and into the heart of the Rob Roy region before returning to Edinburgh around 8:30 pm, where we’ll conclude our journey at Waterloo Place in the city center.
Jacobite Steam Train
