West Highland Lochs, Mountains & Castles Day Trip

From Edinburgh we'll travel west towards our first stop: Doune Castle, a medieval stronghold recognized from various TV programmes and films such as Game of Thrones, Outlander, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. On the way, we'll pass historic sites including Stirling Castle, Wallace Monument, and The Kelpies. Next, we drive into the Highlands, past Loch Lubnaig and through Glen Ogle, stopping for lunch with views of the scenery.

After lunch, we continue deeper into the Highlands, passing Kilchurn Castle, situated on Loch Awe and framed by surrounding mountains. Following this, we arrive at Inveraray, a small town built in the mid-18th century on the shore of Loch Fyne. Here, you can explore the town and purchase Highland souvenirs, or opt for a visit to Inveraray Castle (April to September only), the historic home of the Duke of Argyll, featuring beautiful gardens overlooking Loch Fyne. Inveraray Castle also appeared in the TV series Downton Abbey.

We then begin our return journey, driving over the Arrochar Alps, with a brief pause at the Rest and Be Thankful Pass. Later, we will stop at the village of Luss by Loch Lomond before returning to Edinburgh.
