Discover why El Chalten is known as Patagonia's hiking capital when you take this trip to the "youngest town in Argentina".
El Chalten Trip
After collecting you in the morning from your hotel in El Calafate, we will head to El Chalten. Our itinerary starts along the 'Ruta 40' road, bordering Argentino Lake and crossing the Santa Cruz River. As we drive through Patagonia's scenic landscapes, we will discuss the experiences of Darwin and Fitz Roy in this area.
We'll stop at the settlement of La Leona along the river of the same name, where you can stretch your legs and refresh with coffee and a traditional homemade pastry (not included). We will continue our journey along the shorelines of Viedma Lake, enjoying views of the Torre and Fitz Roy mountain ranges.
Upon reaching El Chalten, founded in the 1970s, we will visit the town's Interpretation Centre. We will then proceed by minibus to an Operational Base, where you will have free time for hiking. A map of the trails will be provided, along with a picnic including two ham and cheese sandwiches, a piece of fruit, a sweet treat, and a bottle of water.
After enjoying your free time in this stunning area, we will regroup to begin our return trip to Calafate, where you will be dropped off.
