Laguna Torre Hike
El Chaltén is known as the National Capital of Trekking in Argentina. We will meet at Avenida San Martín, 631, and begin our 5.5-mile trekking route to Laguna Torre lake.
The trek starts through Antarctic beech woodland, gradually gaining height until reaching the Margarita Waterfall viewpoint, where you'll see the canyon formed by the Fitz Roy River.
Continuing uphill, we reach another viewpoint for a panorama of Cerro Torre, the second-highest mountain in Glaciers National Park, just over 10,000 feet high. Here, we will take a break to admire the surrounding mountains and glaciers.
Laguna Torre is reached after a two-hour walk, where you may see native bird species like the Magellanic woodpecker. At the lake, you will have time to take pictures of the ice tongues in the cold waters. After a lakeside picnic, we will return to the starting point. The activity lasts 7 to 8 hours, depending on the group’s pace.
How Difficult is the Hiking Route?
The hiking route to Laguna Torre is moderately difficult. No prior experience is needed, but a good level of physical condition is required. The 4.3-mile walk takes approximately three hours. This activity is not recommended for individuals with cardiac or respiratory problems.
