Self-Guided Excursion to Mount Vesuvius

If you're in Herculaneum and want to get to Mount Vesuvius, this is the most practical way to get there!

Why visit Mount Vesuvius?

Vesuvius is a famous volcano in Italy and a significant site in the Campania region. From Herculaneum, you can take the transfer to Mount Vesuvius. The Vesuvio Express bus departs from Ercolano Scavi station at the indicated time. After a 30-minute journey, you'll arrive at the entrance of the Vesuvius National Park, where you will have 2 hours of free time to explore the park.

During your visit, you can discover the natural attractions of the national park and learn about the history of volcanic activity of Mount Vesuvius. A visit would not be complete without climbing to the crater, located at about 1200 metres (nearly 4000 feet), which offers views of the Bay of Naples. Remember to bring your camera!

You will need to return to the bus for the ride back to Herculaneum 3 hours after pickup.
