Enjoy birdwatching on the Ria Formosa on this boat trip from Faro. We'll see a multitude of species, such as the white stork, the curlew, and the oystercatcher!
Ria Formosa Birdwatching Tour
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the pier of Faro, specifically at the Passeio Abu Sào Ibn Harune. Here, we'll board a pontoon boat and sail towards the Ria Formosa, a natural paradise located in the Algarve.
During the cruise, we'll discover why the Ria Formosa is considered one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Portugal. Prepare to observe an array of birds!
You'll see aquatic birds such as white storks, little egrets, and spoonbills. In winter, there are more wading birds, while smaller birds like curlews, plovers, and stonechats remain year-round.
The tour will continue next to several oyster and clam farms, where we'll learn about the importance of shellfish fishing in this area of southern Portugal. We'll see birds that feed on shellfish, including oystercatchers and black-tailed godwits.
As we sail to the mouth of the estuary, we'll stop to enjoy views of this natural oasis and continue observing birdlife. This estuary serves as a breeding place for species like little terns and plovers, and in winter, even flamingos!
After a two-hour boat ride with birdwatching on the Ria Formosa, we'll sail until we reach the pier in Faro, where the experience will end.
Birdwatching
The Ria Formosa is one of the best birdwatching locations in Portugal. However, animals are unpredictable, and sightings will depend on various factors such as weather and breeding seasons.
