Located in the Paris-Isle de France region, the Palace of Fontainebleau is over an hour's drive or a quick 40-minute train ride from Paris.
The palace's origins date back to medieval times, but it flourished in the 16th century under King François I.

Château de Fontainebleau
The palace features approximately 1,500 rooms, including the Salon Louis XIII, Salon François I, and the throne room of Napoleon I. Important areas include the royal chapels, Pope Pius VII's apartment, Renaissance rooms, Napoleon I's quarters, and 19th-century galleries. An English audio guide is available for 4EUR per person.
Napoleon I Museum
This museum showcases a collection related to the First Empire (1804-1814), featuring furniture, art, and artifacts from Napoleon I's reign.
Park and gardens
Covering 130 hectares, the park includes the English and Diana gardens, carp pond, and Grand Canal. Visitors can ride the Fontainebleau tourist train for 7EUR per person.

Fontainebleau Palace
The palace and museum are open daily (except Tuesdays) with the following hours:
April to September: 9:30 am to 6 pm (last access at 5:15 pm)October to March: 9:30 am to 5 pm (last access at 4:15 pm)
Some areas may close early, and room access may vary for security reasons. A complete tour lasts about two hours.
Courtyards and gardens of the palace
November to February: 9 am to 5 pm (last access at 4 pm)March to October: 9 am to 6 pm (last access at 5 pm)
The Diana Garden and the English Garden may close early. Gardens may close entirely during bad weather. The park is open Monday to Friday, 24 hours a day, with the Marrier gate closing from 7:30 pm to 9 am. Hours are flexible and subject to change.
