Embark on a serene journey along the shores of the Frío River, immersing yourself in the rich diversity of wildlife and plant life found within the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge on this memorable trip starting from La Fortuna.
Excursion to Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge
Your adventure begins at 7:30 am when we will collect you from your accommodation in La Fortuna, setting off towards the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge.
The ride will take approximately two hours as we traverse the San Carlos Plain en route to the village of Los Chiles, an area historically home to fishermen and rubber harvesters. During this journey, you'll have the chance to admire local agricultural regions thriving with pineapples and sugarcane, vital contributors to Costa Rica’s economy.
Upon arrival, you'll board a boat to commence a delightful cruise along the banks of the Frío River. This refuge, positioned on the border of Costa Rica and Nicaragua and encompassing some of the nation's most significant wetland ecosystems, is considered a natural treasure.
The Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge serves as a sanctuary for various endangered species. As we glide along the river, you'll have the opportunity to observe monkeys, sloths, iguanas, turtles, and potentially caimans! Additionally, from February to April, this protected area becomes a haven for numerous migratory birds.
After a fulfilling two-hour boat journey, we will enjoy a well-deserved traditional lunch before making our way back to La Fortuna. We anticipate returning you to your hotel around 3:30 pm, concluding this remarkable experience.
