Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge Excursion
At 7:30 am, we will pick you up at your hotel in La Fortuna for the tour to the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge. The journey lasts two hours as we cross the San Carlos Plain towards the village of Los Chiles, known for its historical connection to fishermen and rubber workers. During the trip, we will see local crops such as pineapple and sugar cane.
Upon arrival, we will board a boat for a ride along the banks of the Frío River, which marks the border between Costa Rica and Nicaragua and is home to the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, a notable wetland area.
Caño Negro is a protected area for endangered species; the river supports various wildlife. Spotting opportunities include monkeys, sloths, iguanas, turtles, and caimans. From February to April, numerous migratory birds visit this area.
After a two-hour boat ride, we will enjoy a typical lunch before returning to La Fortuna. We will drop you off at your hotel around 3:30 pm.
