Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge Excursion
At 7:30 am, we will pick you up at your hotel in La Fortuna and depart towards the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge.
The journey will take approximately two hours as we travel across the San Carlos Plain to the village of Los Chiles. This area, originally inhabited by fishermen and rubber workers, features local crops such as pineapple and sugar cane, which are important to the Costa Rican economy.
Upon arrival, we will board a boat for a ride along the banks of the Frío River, located on the border between Costa Rica and Nicaragua. The Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge is recognized as one of the country's significant wetland areas.
This protected area for endangered species hosts numerous animals. During the boat ride, we will have the chance to see monkeys, sloths, iguanas, turtles, and caimans. From February to April, many migratory birds visit this refuge.
After a two-hour boat ride, we will enjoy a typical lunch before heading back to La Fortuna. The excursion concludes with a drop-off at your hotel, arriving around 3:30 pm.
