Desertas Islands Schooner Cruise

At the appointed time, we will pick you up at your hotel and board the schooner for the Desertas Islands. The three islands—Bugio, Deserta Grande and Chão Island—form an important reserve of Madeira's subtropical flora and marine biodiversity. We will encounter coloured rocks, steep cliffs, and crystal-clear water beaches.

Sailing across the Atlantic in a schooner, we will enjoy the calm ocean and take in the silhouette of Madeira while departing from Funchal. Onboard, a delicious hot meal will be provided before visiting the main island.

Disembark at Deserta Grande to explore volcanic formations that create a rugged landscape. Deserta Grande is known as a sanctuary for sea birds, including several specimens of monk seals, which we may see.

During the excursion, you will have an opportunity to swim and, if conditions permit, practice snorkelling to explore marine life. After walking along the beaches and cliffs of Deserta Grande, we will return to the schooner and set course back to Funchal.
