Hiking Tour Around the Caldeirão Verde Levada

On this hiking tour through the levadas of Madeira, we'll explore the house of Queimadas, the Pico das Pedras, and Caldeirão Verde, crossing beautiful forests, lakes, and waterfalls along the way.

Description

At the scheduled time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Funchal and head to one of the lush green locations on the island of Madeira.

We will start the hiking route at Pico das Pedras and follow its levada, built in the 19th century. This hike will lead us through a dense laurel forest, crossing Queimadas Park while admiring valleys, gorges, and waterfalls. We will find the Queimadas house, a traditional thatched-roof dwelling.

The 5-hour-long hike will include crossing four artificial tunnels, arriving at Caldeirão Verde, a lake featuring a 100-meter (328-foot) high waterfall where we will stop to rest and take in the natural scenery.

Finally, we will retrace our steps back to the starting point. The hike will last about 5 hours, making the total duration of the excursion approximately 8 hours.
