Levada das 25 Fontes Walk

Immerse yourself in one of the most beautiful areas of Madeira on this hike through Rabaçal and along the Levada das 25 Fontes from Funchal.

Description

After picking you up from your hotel in Funchal, we will head to the Arco da Calheta by minibus. From this town in southern Madeira, we'll begin our trekking route.

We'll follow the Levada das 25 Fontes, a historic aqueduct with a network of walking paths. This trail is named for the 25 natural springs found along the route, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and showcases a great biodiversity of plants and wildlife.

Following the levada, we'll reach the Lagoa de 25 Fontes, a natural lagoon fed by the 25 Fontes Falls, a 30-meter (almost 100 ft) waterfall with multiple streams. You will have 30 minutes for a refreshing dip and to eat your packed lunch.

In the afternoon, we will hike through Rabaçal and begin the return route to Arco da Calheta. After that, we will return to Funchal, dropping you off at your hotel around 5 pm.

Pickup and drop–off

This activity includes pickup and drop-off for hotels in the center of Funchal. If you are staying outside of the city center, we will meet you at Rua 5 de Outubro, 78 at the indicated time.

Important information

The hike lasts 4 hours and covers 11 km (just under 7 miles). It is a moderate route requiring good physical condition.
