Levada das 25 Fontes Walk

Immerse yourself in one of the most beautiful areas of Madeira on this hike through Rabaçal and along the Levada das 25 Fontes from Funchal.

Description

After picking you up from your hotel in Funchal, we will head to the Arco da Calheta by minibus. From this town in southern Madeira, we will begin our trekking route.

We will take a trail known as the Levada das 25 Fontes, a historic aqueduct that has developed into a network of walking paths. This trail is named for the 25 natural springs along the route and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, showcasing a great biodiversity of plants and wildlife.

Following the levada, we will reach the Lagoa de 25 Fontes, a lagoon where the 25 Fontes Falls flows, featuring a waterfall approximately 30 metres high. You will have 30 minutes for a refreshing dip in the pool and to eat your packed food.

In the afternoon, we will begin our return hike through Rabaçal back to Arco da Calheta, then return to Funchal for hotel drop-off around 5 pm.

Pickup and drop–off

This activity includes pickup and drop-off for hotels in the centre of Funchal. For those staying outside the city centre, collection will be at Rua 5 de Outubro, 78 at the indicated time.

Important information

The hike lasts 4 hours and covers 11 km (just under 7 miles). A good physical condition is required for this moderate route.
