North Galapagos Islands 8-Day Cruise
Day 1: Arrival at Baltra & Santa Cruz Islands
Welcome to the enchanting Galapagos Islands! Your adventure begins with a pickup from Seymour Ecological Galapagos Airport on Baltra Island, followed by a transfer to the catamaran to embark on our 8-day expedition around the northern Galapagos. After enjoying a welcome drink, our first destination will be Santa Cruz, where we'll disembark to visit the serene Bachas beach, home to the playful blue-footed boobies and elegant frigatebirds. We will delve into the ecology of these birds before returning to the vessel for a delightful lunch.
In the afternoon, get ready for an exciting hiking adventure and snorkeling at Bachas beach. We'll finish the day with dinner on board as we sail towards Genovesa Island.
Day 2: Exploring Genovesa Island
Following breakfast, we will disembark at Darwin Bay on Genovesa Island and embark on the rugged El Barranco trail, where a challenging hike reveals stunning vistas from the cliffside. Expect to encounter numerous red-footed boobies and wander through a lush Palo Santo forest. After a day filled with discovery, we'll savor dinner aboard the catamaran as we cruise towards Isabela Island.
Post-lunch, we’ll revisit El Barranco to explore the renowned Prince Phillip's Steps, a site of historical significance as it commemorates Prince Phillip's visit in 1964.
Conclude the day with a hearty dinner onboard while we continue our journey towards Santiago Island.
Day 3: Santiago & Rábida Islands
Our journey to Sullivan Bay begins with a panoramic boat tour showcasing striking magmatic flows: pahoehoe and rope lava formations, perfect for comparing lava types. An invitation to snorkel in these fascinating waters awaits.
After lunch, we’ll venture to Rábida Island, famous for its distinctive red hues caused by oxidized iron in the lava. This expedition allows us to seek out various bird species, including nine types of finches, large-billed flycatchers, and brown pelicans, making it a thrill for birdwatchers.
We’ll return to the boat for dinner and sail back to Santa Cruz.
Day 4: Discovering Santa Cruz Island
Upon landing at Santa Cruz, we will learn about the majestic Galapagos tortoises and their conservation efforts.
In the afternoon, a visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station will deepen our understanding of the islands' biology and geology. Curious about Jorge's story?
The day concludes with a flavorful dinner aboard as we head to Isabela Island.
Day 5: Isabela Island Adventures
We'll navigate to Elizabeth Bay, with an opportunity to swim and explore its enticing waters prior to lunch.
Afterward, we’ll discover Urbina Bay, a fascinating site formed by an uplifting of subterranean materials. This bay has yielded remains of sharks and lobsters, all while spotting flightless cormorants and brown pelicans amidst the rare Galapagos cotton.
We'll then enjoy dinner on board as we set sail across to Tagus Cove.
Day 6: Isabela & Fernandina Islands
Following breakfast, we'll explore Tagus Cove on Isabela Island, a protected cove with an impressive range of biodiversity.
In the afternoon, after enjoying lunch, we will journey to Fernandina Island for a walk at Espinosa Point, where we might encounter flat lava formations, cormorants, sea lions, and various iguanas.
The day will wrap up with dinner on the boat while we journey to Santiago Island.
Day 7: Santiago Island Exploration
On Santiago Island, we’ll first appreciate the breathtaking scenery at Espumilla Beach.
Later, a boat ride to Buccaneer's Cove reveals a historic refuge for pirates and whalers, complemented by majestic cliffs and the distinctive monk and elephant rock formations. Expect to encounter a large flock of wild goats.
Subsequently, we’ll visit Egas Port, celebrated for its picturesque landscapes along with the intriguing salt mines.
Afterward, enjoy dinner on the catamaran as we sail back to Santa Cruz Island.
Day 8: Departure from Santa Cruz & Baltra Islands
