Embark on a captivating journey back to the Middle Ages as we discover the castles of Connemara. This guided tour will take you to the iconic Kylemore Abbey and Aughnanure Castle, where rich histories and tales await to be uncovered.

Itinerary

We will convene at Galway Cathedral at the scheduled time. After gathering the group, a comfortable bus will transport us to explore one of Connemara's greatest assets – its historic castles. Get ready to step into the past!

The Connemara area, notable for its stunning and rugged terrain, boasts a variety of castles, each brimming with fascinating stories. Our first stop will be to Aughnanure Castle, located close to Lough Corrib.

Here, we will delve into the history of the O'Flahertys, a notable noble family in Connacht during the 16th century. A leisurely walk will take us around the remnants of the grand banqueting hall, and we’ll also explore the watchtower and the many preserved bastions.

Following our exploration, we will journey through the spectacular scenery of Connemara via the Inagh Valley, making our way to Kylemore Abbey. This site was commissioned by politician Mitchell Henry as a gift for his bride. You will have an hour of leisure to wander around this stunning abbey—don't miss the exquisite Victorian gardens and the charming Gothic church.

Afterward, we will make a brief visit near Ballynahinch Castle, a historic fortress, for a chance to capture a memorable photo. Along the route, we will also take in views of the renowned Sky Road.

Our adventure will conclude back at the meeting point, approximately eight hours after we begin.
