Galway Free Walking Tour
On the day of the tour, we'll meet up at the scheduled time next to the Spanish arch and set off on our free tour of Galway. The tour will cover the most emblematic spots in the cultural capital of Ireland.
We will explore the bustling city of Galway, discussing its history from a small fishing village to a modern university town. Galway serves as the gateway to the Connemara National Park, a notable natural site in Ireland.
We'll navigate the charming narrow streets while sharing fascinating fun facts. The city was founded by 14 merchant families in the fifteenth century, leaving behind landmarks such as Lynch Castle and the Collegiate Church of St. Nicholas.
We will pause to admire the stunning facade of the church, discussing claims that Christopher Columbus visited before his first journey to the Americas.
Our route will also include the Galway harbor, learning its history which dates back to the 12th century, when Clan O'Connor built a fort at the mouth of the Corrib River.
After two hours, we will conclude the free tour of Galway at a lookout point with scenic river views for souvenir photos.
