At the indicated time, we'll meet outside St Columba's Credit Union office on the edge of Eyre Square to begin this walking tour of Galway.
Starting from our meeting point, we'll walk around Eyre Square and see The Browne Doorway, moved to Eyre Square in 1905, with a rich history.
We will also visit the Quincentennial Fountain, designed by Eamon O'Doherty and dedicated in 1984 to commemorate Galway's establishment as a borough with mayoral privileges.
Next, we'll explore Lynch's Castle, a 16th-century structure used as a bank today, formerly owned by a powerful family.
The tour includes a stop at the Galway Market, open Saturdays and Sundays year-round, featuring food and craft stalls. Afterwards, we’ll stroll down Kirwan's Lane, located in the Latin Quarter, showcasing 16th and 17th-century architecture.
As we conclude our tour, we will visit The Spanish Arch, originally built in 1584, and learn about its name's transformation.
Finally, we will cross Salmon Weir Bridge to Galway Cathedral, ending the tour after a total of 1.5 hours.
