Hiking Parco delle Mura
We'll meet at Via Carlo Targa in Genoa to start the hiking route through the Parco delle Mura Natural Area. We'll leave the historic downtown of Genoa and walk to the Zecca-Righi funicular railway, one of the oldest in the region. In 15 minutes, we'll reach the highest part of the city, a natural space ready to be explored.
Parco delle Mura covers about 900 hectares (2,223 acres) and is home to numerous protected species. Our route will include a stroll through the butterfly trail, where these insects reproduce.
During the hike, we'll see the Forti della Superba and the Mura Nuove, former military structures built in the Ligurian Apennines. Note that this is the second longest wall in the world after the Great Wall of China.
To conclude the hiking route, we'll visit a typical tavern for a breakfast featuring focaccia and crackers. Finally, we'll take the funicular back to Genoa and finish our tour after 4 hours of activity.
