Hiking Parco delle Mura
We'll meet at Via Carlo Targa in Genoa to start the hiking route through the Parco delle Mura Natural Area. The route highlights the longest defensive system in Europe.
As we leave historic downtown Genoa, we'll walk to the Zecca-Righi funicular railway, one of the oldest in the Ligurian capital. In 15 minutes, we will reach the highest part of the city, entering a natural space ready to be explored.
Parco delle Mura covers about 900 hectares (2,223 acres) and is home to numerous protected species. Look out for wildlife during our walk. Our route includes a stroll through the butterfly trail, an area for butterfly reproduction.
During the hike, we will see the Forti della Superba and Mura Nuove, former military structures built in the Ligurian Apennines for defense against Savoyard attacks. This wall is the second longest in the world after the Great Wall of China.
To conclude the hike, we will visit a typical tavern for a breakfast of focaccia and crackers. We will then take the funicular back to Genoa and wrap up the tour after 4 hours of activity.
