Hiking Parco delle Mura
We'll meet at Via Carlo Targa in Genoa to start a hiking route through the Parco delle Mura Natural Area. This area represents the longest defensive system in Europe.
As we leave the historic downtown of Genoa, we'll walk to the Zecca-Righi funicular railway, one of the oldest in the city. We'll climb into one of its cabins and, in 15 minutes, we'll reach the highest part of the city. At the top, we'll explore the natural space.
Parco delle Mura covers about 900 hectares (2,223 acres) and is home to numerous protected species. Keep an eye out for wildlife along our route. Our hike includes the butterfly trail, a dedicated area for reproduction.
During the hike, we’ll see the Forti della Superba and the Mura Nuove, both former military structures built for the defense of Genoa. Notably, it's the second longest wall in the world after the Great Wall of China.
To conclude the hiking route, we’ll visit a typical tavern for a breakfast of focaccia and crackers.
We will then take the funicular back to Genoa, completing our tour after 4 hours of activity.
