Join us as we explore Genoa through a hiking route in Parco delle Mura. Take a cable car to see ancient forts surrounded by nature.
Hiking Parco delle Mura
We will meet at Via Carlo Targa in Genoa to begin our hike through the Parco delle Mura Natural Area, home to the longest defensive system in Europe.
Leaving the historic downtown behind, we'll walk to the Zecca-Righi funicular railway, one of the oldest in the city. After a 15-minute ride, we will reach the highest part of the city, where natural spaces await exploration.
Parco delle Mura covers about 900 hectares (2,223 acres) and is a habitat for numerous protected species. Be attentive; we may spot some along our route. Our trail includes the butterfly trail, where butterflies reproduce.
During the hike, we will view the Forti della Superba and the Mura Nuove, historical military structures built to protect Genoa from Savoyard attacks. Notably, this is the second longest wall in the world after the Great Wall of China.
To conclude, we will visit a typical tavern for a breakfast that includes focaccia and crackers. After a 4-hour activity, we'll return via the funicular to Genoa.
