On this tour of medieval Genoa, we'll discover the essence of a city that has preserved its charm over the centuries. We'll explore the most authentic side of the city known as La Superba through its narrow alleyways, hidden squares, and historical monuments that date back to the Middle Ages.
Tour Details
We'll meet at the designated time in front of the Tourist Information Office at the Old Port, where we'll begin this walking tour of medieval Genoa.
The tour will start next to the Embriaci Tower, a symbol of the ancient Genovese nobility. From here, we'll head over to Campopisano and the Church of Santa Maria di Castello, showcasing medieval architecture.
We'll continue towards the Church of San Donato, hidden amongst the carruggi, and the Porta Soprana, a sample of the city's medieval defensive walls.
Lastly, we'll visit the Sant'Agostino Museum, exploring its triangular cloister, the adjoining church, and the remains of the mausoleum of Margaret of Brabant, by sculptor Giovanni Pisano.
After a total of 2.5 hours, this tour will conclude at the museum's exit.
