On this tour of medieval Genoa, we'll discover the essence of a city that has preserved its charm over the centuries. We'll explore the most authentic side of the city known as La Superba through its narrow alleyways, hidden squares, and historical monuments that date back to the Middle Ages.

Tour Details

We'll meet at the designated time in front of the Tourist Information Office at the Old Port, where we'll begin this walking tour of medieval Genoa, a journey back in time to discover the city's fascinating past.

The tour will start next to the Embriaci Tower, one of the only medieval towers that have survived up until the present day, a symbol of the ancient Genovese nobility. From here, we'll head over to Campopisano, which holds a lesser-known chapter in the city's history, and the Church of Santa Maria di Castello, exemplifying medieval architecture and beliefs.

We'll continue towards the Church of San Donato, a small Romanesque gem hidden amongst the carruggi, and the Porta Soprana, an impressive sample of the city's medieval defensive walls.

Lastly, we'll visit the Sant'Agostino Museum, exploring its triangular cloister, the adjoining church, and the remains of the mausoleum of Margaret of Brabant, a masterpiece by the sculptor Giovanni Pisano.

After 2.5 hours, this tour will come to an end at the museum's exit.
