On this tour of medieval Genoa, we'll discover the essence of a city that has preserved its charm over the centuries. We'll explore the most authentic side of the city known as La Superba through its narrow alleyways, hidden squares, and historical monuments that date back to the Middle Ages.

Tour Details

We'll meet at the designated time in front of the Tourist Information Office at the Old Port, where we'll begin this walking tour of medieval Genoa. The tour will start next to the Embriaci Tower, one of the only medieval towers that have survived, symbolizing the ancient Genovese nobility. From here, we'll head over to Campopisano, an area with a fascinating chapter in the city's history, and the Church of Santa Maria di Castello, showcasing medieval architecture and beliefs.

Next, we'll visit the Church of San Donato, a small Romanesque gem hidden among the carruggi, followed by the Porta Soprana, part of the city's medieval defensive walls.

Lastly, we'll explore the Sant'Agostino Museum, including its triangular cloister, the adjoining church, and the remains of the mausoleum of Margaret of Brabant, a work by the sculptor Giovanni Pisano. The tour will conclude after 2.5 hours at the museum's exit.
