Description

At the Straits and Oriental Museum, visitors can experience a museum, art gallery, restaurant, café, bar, and gift shop in one location. As the first cultural center of Malaysia and Penang, it offers insights into the history, cuisine, and culture of the country and the island. The museum features a collection of ancient ceramics retrieved from shipwrecks, including artifacts from the Wanli, Turiang, Royal Nanhai, Nanyang, Xuande, and Desaru wrecks. Located within the St. Jo's building, formerly known as St. Joseph's Novitiate, it holds a unique role in Penang's heritage and includes a chapel with stained glass windows.
