Jewish Quarter Tour + Museum of Jewish History
We'll meet at the designated time in Plaça de Sant Feliu square to begin your guided tour through the Jewish neighborhood of Girona, one of the best preserved in Europe. This district retains its original appearance and features ancient remains from its Roman and Medieval past. Known as the "Call," this area housed one thousand inhabitants during the Middle Ages, marking it as a significant Jewish community in Spain's history.
As you navigate the narrow streets of the Jewish Quarter, the birthplace of Nachmanides, you will visit the sites of the city's three synagogues. The guided tour will cover the customs and traditions of the Jewish population, the tools they used, and their housing design. The visit to the Museum of Jewish History will provide further insights into their way of life.
Your guide will then take you through the labyrinthine streets while discussing the history of the Expulsion of the Jews in 1492, ending 600 years of coexistence. After three hours exploring the "Call," the tour will conclude, leaving you with a deeper understanding of the Jewish community’s influence in Girona.
