Iglesiente Mines Coastal Tour
At 9 am, we'll meet at Fontanamare Beach, located 12 kilometers from the center of Iglesias. The tour will involve walking and driving your own vehicle while following the guide in their vehicle.
We will start by learning about the historic area near the Umberto I Gallery, a 19th-century tunnel connecting the Monteponi mine with Fontanamare beach. Nearby, we will observe ruins related to the mining sector, including an old chimney.
As we walk to the mining village of Nebida, we will explore the history of how civilizations like the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, and Romans exploited the mineral deposits of Sardinia.
We will walk through Nebida and descend towards the ruins of the La Marmora wash plant, where zinc and lead were separated and classified.
Next, we will visit a viewpoint for panoramic views of the coast of Masua and the famous islet of Pan di Zucchero. Afterward, we will arrive at Masua beach, where you will have half an hour of free time to relax before heading to the Porto Flavia mine, operational until 1964. This will be an exclusive tour of the mine without waiting in lines.
At 2 pm, the tour will conclude at the entrance of the Porto Flavia mine.
