Iglesiente Mines Coastal Tour
At 9 am, we'll meet at Fontanamare Beach, located 12 kilometers from Iglesias. The tour will mix walking and driving your own vehicle, following the guide in their car. We’ll begin by learning about the historic area while viewing the end of the Umberto I Gallery, a 19th-century tunnel connecting the Monteponi mine with Fontanamare beach, and nearby ruins related to mining, including an old chimney.
As we walk towards the mining village of Nebida, we will share the history of various civilizations, including Phoenicians and Romans, that exploited these mineral deposits. Following this, we'll explore Nebida and descend to the ruins of the La Marmora wash plant, where zinc and lead were processed.
Next, we’ll visit a viewpoint offering panoramic views of the coast of Masua and the islet of Pan di Zucchero. Participants will have half an hour of free time at Masua beach to relax. We will then continue to the Porto Flavia mine, operational until 1964, for an exclusive tour of the mine site without waiting in lines.
At 2 pm, the tour concludes at the entrance of Porto Flavia mine.
