Discover the charm of the capital of the Grand Port district on this private tour of Mahébourg. You'll visit its major landmarks and the Rault Biscuit Factory.
Description
At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel to start this guided tour of Mahébourg. First, we'll visit the National Museum of History of Mahébourg to learn about the maritime past of the region and the battles between the French and the British throughout the 19th century. The museum is located in a colonial building dating back to 1772.
Next, we'll explore the Waterfront, where we will walk along the promenade and discover the history of the Battle of the Grand Harbour while observing local life. Nearby is the central market of Mahébourg, which is filled with stalls offering fruits, handicrafts, musical instruments, and textiles.
We will then visit the Rault biscuit factory, famous for its Mauritian cassava cookies made since 1870. We will tour the facilities for about an hour and learn about the secret recipe maintained over generations.
From here, we'll proceed to Pointe Canon, a monument celebrating the abolition of slavery on the island. To conclude this tour, we'll enjoy a traditional full-course meal at a local restaurant and return you to your hotel after a total of 8 hours.
Mahebourg Central Market
The central market of Mahebourg will only be visited on Mondays. On other days, we will visit the Blue Bay beach, a popular diving destination due to its rich biodiversity.
