Description
At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel to start this guided tour of Mahébourg - you'll be amazed by its great cultural and historical heritage!
First, we'll visit the National Museum of History of Mahébourg, where we'll learn about the maritime past of the region and the battles from the French and the British throughout the 19th century. The museum is located in an old French-style colonial building dating back to 1772.
After the museum, we'll walk along the Waterfront, Mahébourg's promenade, to admire the surroundings and learn about the Battle of the Grand Harbour and local life.
Next, we'll visit the central market of Mahébourg, filled with stalls offering fruits, handicrafts, musical instruments, and textiles made on the island.
We will then head to the Rault biscuit factory, known for its famous Mauritian cassava cookies made since 1870. We'll tour the facilities for about an hour.
From there, we’ll visit Pointe Canon, a monument celebrating the abolition of slavery on the island, followed by a traditional full-course meal at a local restaurant. We will return to your hotel after a total of 8 hours.
Mahebourg Central Market
The central market of Mahebourg is open on Mondays only. On other days, we will visit the Blue Bay beach, known for its rich biodiversity and popular among divers.
