Description
At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel to start this guided tour of Mahébourg. We will first visit the National Museum of History of Mahébourg, where we will learn about the region's maritime past and battles of the French and the British during the 19th century. The museum is housed in an old French-style colonial building from 1772.
Next, we will walk along the Waterfront to admire the surroundings and learn about the Battle of the Grand Harbour and local life. Nearby, the central market of Mahébourg offers a variety of stalls featuring fruits, handicrafts, musical instruments, and textiles made on the island.
We will then visit the Rault biscuit factory, known for its famous Mauritian cassava cookies since 1870. The secret recipe has been preserved over four generations. A tour of the factory will take about one hour.
After this, we will go to Pointe Canon, a monument celebrating the abolition of slavery on the island. The tour concludes with a visit to a local restaurant for a traditional full-course meal.
We will drop you back at your hotel after a total of 8 hours.
Mahebourg Central Market
The central market will only be visited on Mondays. On other days, we will go to the Blue Bay beach, known for its biodiversity and popularity as a diving destination.
