Are you in Bombay and feeling like visiting one of the most sacred temples in India? On this excursion to the Elephanta Caves, we'll uncover the secrets of this breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Elephanta Caves Tour
We'll meet at 10:30 am in front of the PizzaExpress restaurant. From there, we'll head towards the Gateway of India, where we'll take a ferry to the Elephanta Caves, a significant architectural site in Bombay.
Once we arrive at this World Heritage Site, we'll first see the galleries of the Shiva Cave, where we will encounter several stone carvings representing key moments in the life of this Hindu god.
Throughout the tour, we'll share interesting facts about the caves, believed to have been built between 810 and 1260. In the 16th century, some statues were damaged due to target practice.
The tour will continue as we explore various sanctuaries and carved passageways. Arriving at the main grotto, we'll stop to observe the sculpture of Trimurti, dedicated to the three gods of the Hindu religion: Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva.
After this insight into Hindu history and culture, we'll board the ferry again and conclude the tour back at the Gateway of India four to five hours after our initial departure.
