On this private day trip to the Corralejo tequila factory and the Plazuelas archaeological area, we will explore a route that combines history and cuisine, uncovering the secrets of agave and visiting a site over 2000 years old.
Tequila Factory & Archaeological Site
At the scheduled time, we will pick you up from your hotel in Guanajuato and travel to Pénjamo, home to the Corralejo factory. This 18th-century tequila factory is one of the most renowned in Guanajuato.
After a 1.5-hour journey, we will begin a guided visit of the distillery, learning how agave is transformed into traditional Mexican tequila. We will cover all phases necessary to create this drink, from harvest to ageing process, including ovens, mills, and fermentation. Participation in a tasting will be included.
Following this, you will have free time to eat before we board the minibus to the Plazuela archaeological zone, where the well-preserved pyramids await. We will discuss why these constructions are significant in Mesoamerica while exploring the squares, temples, and palaces.
We will travel back to the year 800 BC to learn about the Chupicuaro culture and the connection to the Toltecs.
After a 9-hour tour, we will conclude the day back at your hotel.
