Travel back in time by learning about the history of Mexican Independence with this tour of the Guanajuato towns that were the scene of the insurrection: Dolores Hidalgo, Atotonilco and San Miguel de Allende.
Description
After pickup from your hotel in Guanajuato at the indicated time, we'll embark on a tour through the events of the Mexican Revolution that led to independence.
The experience begins with a stop at the Conservas Santa Rosa store to sample sweets. We'll visit the city's old prison and the mausoleum of José Alfredo Jiménez.
Next, in Dolores Hidalgo, we will see the church where Miguel Hidalgo Costilla, the Father of the Nation, initiated the revolution in 1810 with his Cry of Dolores. We will discuss key facts about the independence movement here.
Then, we'll arrive at Atotonilco to enter the Sanctuary of Jesus Nazareno, known for its historical murals. The priest Hidalgo took the banner of the Virgin of Guadalupe as the first flag of the Insurgents.
There will be a lunch break before we proceed to San Miguel de Allende, the hometown of insurgent leader General Ignacio Allende. You will have an hour of free time to explore the town. Finally, we will drop you off at the center of Guanajuato, near the Juarez Theater, approximately 8 hours after the initial pickup.
