On this excursion to Almeida, Castelo Mendo and Castelo Rodrigo we'll visit these three historical villages of Portugal and learn about their most popular legends.
Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet at Praça Luís de Camões in Guarda and start a tour of Portugal's historic villages.
First, we'll head to Almeida, recognized for its fortifications. We'll take a guided tour of the old town, highlighting attractions such as the Gate of St. Francis, the Squadrons' Barracks, the Church of Mercy, and the Gate of St. Anthony.
Next, we'll visit Castelo Mendo, an ancient town noted for its medieval appearance. Here, we will stroll through its streets and see the old fortress, including the wall and the ruined church. We will also explore the new fortress of Castelo Mendo, known as Arrabal de San Pedro, which was affected by the earthquake in 1755.
Finally, we'll visit Castelo Rodrigo, a village with a history shaped by territorial disputes. After exploring Castelo Rodrigo, we'll return to the starting point, concluding the trip after approximately 4 hours.
